Moving a little bit a lot is better than moving a lot a little bit.

We always talk about movement and the importance of exercising but often times my clients ask how much should I be doing? And the answer of course is not simple because we’re all built a bit different and our needs are different.

However, a healthy generalization can be made here that exercising more routinely is better than exercising sporadically. This means that spreading your exercise out through the week is better than being a weekend warrior. Everyone’s schedule is different but most of us have anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes somewhere throughout our day that we can dedicate to some movement.

Studies have shown that short bursts of movements, such as the 4 minute workout (ZACH BUSH MD | 4 Minute Workout), have the same cardiovascular and metabolic benefits as longer duration exercise. To conclude, a good rule of thumb is moving a little bit a lot rather than a lot a little bit. More movement more often because movement is medicine.
